Himachal Pradesh University Marks 57th Foundation Day as Governor Kavinder Gupta Calls for Value-Based Education and Innovation

Himachal Pradesh University celebrated its 57th Foundation Day with Governor and Chancellor Kavinder Gupta emphasizing value-based education, Indian knowledge systems, research innovation, environmental sustainability and social service. The event highlighted academic achievements, awards, new research projects and the university’s vision for future development.

Governor and Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday emphasized that education must go beyond professional training by developing character, values and a spirit of service among students. Addressing the 57th Foundation Day celebrations of Himachal Pradesh University, he stressed the importance of combining Indian knowledge systems with modern education to create a strong, self-reliant and developed India.

Congratulating the university fraternity on the occasion, Governor Gupta highlighted the institution’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 1970. He appreciated the university’s academic achievements, quality research initiatives and NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation, describing the foundation day as an occasion for both celebration and reflection on future responsibilities.

Addressing emerging global concerns, the Governor highlighted the increasing challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters. He called upon the university to strengthen research in disaster management, environmental sustainability and emerging technologies. He also emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research, promotion of regional languages, Indian knowledge systems and innovation in fields such as medicinal plants and organic farming.

Governor Gupta urged university teachers to adopt one village each and contribute actively towards education expansion, environmental awareness and social development at the grassroots level.

Quoting the ancient educational principle, “Vidyartham Agachchha, Sevaartham Nirgachchha” meaning come to acquire knowledge and leave to serve society, Shri Gupta said graduates should carry modern technology in one hand and India’s timeless values in the other. He expressed confidence that the integration of scientific progress with India’s traditional wisdom would enable the country to emerge as a global knowledge leader.

During the celebrations, the Governor presented best teacher and researcher awards along with best employee awards to distinguished faculty members and staff for their contributions.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Professor Mahavir Singh highlighted the university’s recent achievements, including research funding sanctioned by ARTRAC for innovation and research. He also informed about two major DRDO research projects worth Rs. 82 lakh and Rs. 87 lakh. He stated that several new interdisciplinary centres and skill-oriented courses had been introduced to prepare students for future challenges.

Dean of Studies Professor B.K. Shivram presented the university’s annual report during the event. A documentary titled “Pragati Ka Ek Varsh” was also screened on the occasion.

Padma Shri awardee Vidyanand Saraik, Nek Ram Sharma and Dr. Rajeev Chauhan, Assistant Professor at PGIMER Chandigarh, also addressed the gathering. Registrar Jyoti Rana delivered the vote of thanks.

The 57th Foundation Day celebration reflected Himachal Pradesh University’s continued commitment towards academic excellence, research advancement and the development of socially responsible graduates equipped with knowledge, skills and values for national progress.
